coffee love
so i read this sweet little post today on Luxist about the wonders that a good cup of coffee can do for a person's day ("starting every day with a great cup of coffee can make all the difference"). i, for one, could totally not agree more. i am a starbucks lover through and through. to be specific, my fix is a venti non-fat chai latte, no water, eight pump. there is no harm is knowing what you like or want. this could, and should, very well be translated to the rest of our lives.anyway, here's to coffee, in all its sweet, strong and bold forms!

Millennials
So my dad Tivo'd (yes, I have added that word into my permanent personal dictionary) for me a 60-Minutes segment which discusses a new generation taking over the work place. Millennials. This population of "new" workers is one which places themselves first. They are no longer the breed of old which placed such emphasis on working hard for the benefit of the company. Gone are the days of the "Company Man" (Ew! What an awful term!). In fact, this new generation - of which I am a member - works simply for one reason ... the betterment of themselves. According to Andy Rooney, we now schedule work or meetings around Yoga and the gym and are not ashamed to admit it. We blog (e'hem), text, wear sandals to work and carry around our iPod's as if we shouldn't expect to finalize our projects without something to keep us entertained while doing so - do they want us to do a good job or not?! We're also unafraid to switch jobs ... as if some other company is not going to break their necks to get us into their doors. This me first sense of entitlement, according to 60-Minutes, has sprung from our childhood (see, I'm not the only one still finding it hard to say goodbye to my child-like sensibilities). Milennials were raised being told how important we are, that we can do anything and that simply giving something a try is valiant and brave - something we should be rewarded for - and apparently we believed it. This is now applied to the workplace. Now, pardon me while I take a long lunch to get my yoga out of the way.

no one said it would be easy
you know how people often talk about starting over? how they say they are finding themselves at the end of one thing and the beginning of another? how one door has closed for them and how they are standing in front of another one? you know how often you find you can't relate to that?
well today, for the first time, i can. and i can tell you ... the end is sad ... the start is overwhelming. the door that's closed is like family and the new door in front of you is a stranger - i don't even want to touch the handle let alone step inside.
"Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
But no one ever said it would be this hard
Take me back to the start." (The Scientist, Coldplay)

for a moment's peace
so i went to yoga last night. it's hard. difficult. hard to find your energy when you can barely hold the tree pose. it hurts ... digging the heel of your foot into the sensitive inner thigh. the inner thigh is a yin part of the body. Female. sensitive. but once you hold the pose long enough you are essentially giving yourself a version of acupuncture and it begins to feel good .. you wake up that portion of the body. you feed it energy. then you put your hands together in prayer position. this is namaste. i love this part. for a moment i lost touch with my reality. or maybe for a moment i was actually in touch with my reality. i had to concentrate so hard on my breathing and my balance and posture that i could not have anyone or anything else on my brain. yoga is blissfully difficult and challenging. an hour and forty-five minutes of my life melted away and yet i did not lose it. i felt every minute, i lived every minute and loved it. i will go again this weekend. namaste.
